Der »Stummfilm für Gehörlose« ist sicher Brynntrups witzigster Film. Ein konservativ-verklemmtes Lehrbuch für Gehörlosensprache (übrigens das einzige in Deutschland erhältliche) wird abgefilmt und mit eigenen Einsätzen persifliert. Der Witz geht auf Kosten des Lehrbuchherstellers, nicht seiner Benutzer !

Da gibt es den gar nicht stummen Lehr- und Übungsfilm »Stummfilm für Gehörlose«, eine Reminiszenz an die Geschichte des Super-8-Films, der ja vorwiegend als Lehrstück eingesetzt wurde. Standbilder von zeichensprechenden Menschen entlarven die Symbolik der Zeichensprache, doch 24 mal in der Sekunde fotografiert, werden die abrupten Gesten zur flüssigen Gestik und entlarven plötzlich den, der meint, sie ganz und gar nicht nötig zu haben.

»Stummfilm für Gehörlose« (Deutschland 2002) - Die didaktischen Tendenzen dieser Arbeit strukturieren Sprache und Humor um. Das Werk, einfach in Form und Botschaft, hat das Interesse und die Aufmerksamkeit der Jury am meisten gefesselt. Indem auf einen zu komplexen Gebrauch von Technik verzichtet wurde, macht diese Arbeit vielen anderen technologisch sehr determinierten Arbeiten, die heute produziert werden, einen Strich durch die Rechnung.

»SILENT MOVIE For Deaf People« (Germany 2002) - This work uses didactic strategies to deconstruct language and humour. The interest and attention of the jury were most captivated by this work, which is simple in both form and message. By refusing the unnecessarily complex use of technology, it throws a monkey wrench into the hi-tech agenda of other contemporary works.

Stummfilm (or Silent Film) is a Flash animation that cleverly utilises still images and sound to create a dramatic and educational experience. It was first released in November 2002 where it was viewed by over 2000 on-line users. It has also been shown in media art exhibitions and festivals around the world which appreciate the experimental capacities of webfilms.
